What Macy's Announced for the 2026 Holiday Season

Macy's, Inc. laid out its plans in a holiday hiring announcement. The company is filling part-time seasonal roles in its stores, plus full- and part-time jobs at select supply chain sites, with in-person hiring days on September 24, October 22 and November 19. Macy's says event times vary from store to store.

Macy's named 10 top hiring markets for its stores this year, and Kansas City isn't one of them. The hiring day still runs nationwide, both Johnson County stores included, but no local headcount has been published. Treat October 22 as a solid shot at a holiday job, not a guaranteed offer.

Macy's hasn't released a single pay rate; every posting shows its own range, so read it before you apply. Listed perks include a colleague discount, a 401(k), eligibility-based medical, dental and vision, and early access to earned wages.

🗺️ Why Both Stores Are in Kansas

Macy's put its Metro North Mall store on Barry Road on its closing list in January 2025, after the Lee's Summit and Independence Center stores had already gone dark, as KCTV5 reported. Macy's own store directory now lists no locations in the Kansas City, Missouri, area, so both hiring-day stores are in Johnson County.

Oak Park Mall. The Overland Park store anchors the mall at 95th Street and Quivira Road, a few minutes off I-35. It's the easy pick for Lenexa, Shawnee and Merriam.

Town Center Plaza. The Leawood store sits on 119th Street near Nall Avenue. It works for south Overland Park, Olathe, Prairie Village and anyone cutting over from south Kansas City, Missouri, via State Line or I-435.

Different Day, Different Event: More Hiring This Month

Laid off and looking for a full-time job rather than a holiday shift? The same day, October 22, Overland Park also hosts a Kansas City dislocated workers job fair. Different event, different employers, different requirements. The day before, Wednesday, October 21, there's a free hiring event at Harrah's Kansas City in the Northland. Our fall Kansas City job fairs guide lists the rest of the season.

📋 How to Show Up Ready on Oct. 22

Call your store first. Hours vary by location, and the two stores may not match.
Apply online before you go. It saves time at the store.
Bring photo ID. If you're hired, you'll complete work-authorization paperwork.
Know your real availability. Evenings, weekends and the days around Thanksgiving are what holiday retail runs on.
