KANSAS CITY, MO — Fall hiring in Kansas City has run largely through one address this season. The Wyandotte County Workforce Center at 400 State Avenue in downtown KCK hosted a string of single-employer hiring events through September, and Workforce Partnership posted a fresh batch for October, which opened with a free job fair at the KCK Public Library on October 6. The big multi-employer fairs come later in the month: Kansas City Kansas Community College's career fair at its Technical Education Center on October 20, JobNewsUSA at Harrah's Kansas City on October 21 and the Women's Employment Network's fair at Crown Center on October 29.

Nineteen Kansas City job fairs and hiring events run from September 15 through October 30; nine have already taken place. Security, driving, retail, school district and multi-industry hiring is still ahead, and walk-ins are welcome at most of them.

Why the Fall Calendar Runs Through KCK

Most of this fall's confirmed hiring events come from Workforce Partnership, the public workforce board that runs the KANSASWORKS centers for Wyandotte, Johnson and Leavenworth counties. Its Wyandotte County center sits on State Avenue in downtown KCK, just across the Kansas River from the West Bottoms and an easy drive for anyone on the Missouri side. Most of its events are a single employer with hiring managers in the room, and the posting pattern is the same: walk-ins welcome, on-the-spot interviews possible, and a KANSASWORKS job seeker account recommended before you show up. After its October 6 fair at the KCK Public Library, the board has one more multi-employer fair of its own this month, for laid-off workers in Overland Park on October 22.

Inter-Con Security — Tuesdays, September 15, 22 & 29

Inter-Con ran a standing recruiting table every Tuesday afternoon in September for full-time and part-time security officers. All three September sessions are done, and the company is back every Tuesday in October (see below). HIPOWER Systems — Friday, September 18

Himonisa Power Systems, which does business as HIPOWER Systems, is recruiting for mechanical drafter and assembler positions. This is the one event on the calendar aimed at manufacturing and technical drawing skills, so drafters should bring examples of their work and assemblers should be ready to talk about tools, blueprints and production experience. Johnson County Park Police Hiring Event — Saturday, September 19

The only weekend event on the list. The Johnson County Park & Recreation District is recruiting park police officers, and the department says candidates who are ready can complete an interview on site. Officers will be there to answer questions about the hiring process and what the job looks like day to day. Fastenal — Wednesday, September 23

Kansas City Kansas Community College opens its Technical Education Center, the college's hands-on campus in western Wyandotte County, to employers for a three-hour morning fair. The first Missouri-side fair on the list, and a multi-industry one: recruiters from different fields share one room on the North Kansas City riverfront, so you can work several tables in a single afternoon. Macy's national holiday hiring day reaches both Johnson County stores, the only Macy's locations left in the metro. It's walk-in hiring for seasonal part-time store jobs ahead of Black Friday, with no registration, though applying online first at macysJOBS saves time at the store. Macy's hasn't published a Kansas City headcount or a single pay rate, and hours differ by location, so call Oak Park at (913) 888-4910 or Town Center Plaza at (913) 563-3996 before you go.
