💼 The Jobs the UG Has Named

The Unified Government runs both KCK and Wyandotte County. For this event, Workforce Partnership lists full-time and part-time openings and calls out two by name.

  • General Laborer, Public Works. This is the Street Division. The posting describes running dump trucks, weed eaters and chainsaws, helping repair roads and culverts, setting up traffic control, fixing and replacing signs, and working winter weather and storm response. Good fit if you like outdoor work and don't mind a call-in when snow hits I-635.
  • Public Safety Dispatcher. The people on the other end of an emergency call.

Neither listing publishes pay, and the UG hasn't said how many people it plans to hire. Ask about the pay range, the schedule and the start date at the table, and treat any other roles you hear about there as a bonus, not a promise.

✅ What to Know Before You Walk In

The General Laborer posting says a job offer depends on passing a post-offer criminal background check, a physical exam and a drug screen, plus proof of identity and work eligibility. Plan on similar steps for a dispatch job, and ask whether there's a skills test after the interview.

  • Set up a KANSASWORKS account first. Workforce Partnership asks every job seeker to create one at KANSASWORKS before the event.
  • Look at the openings ahead of time. UG jobs are posted on the Unified Government careers site. Applying online before Friday gives the managers something to pull up.
  • Bring printed resumes and a photo ID, and for the laborer job, your driver's license details and any equipment experience.
  • Get your resume checked. Career navigators at the center review resumes by appointment and run resume workshops. Call (913) 279-2600.

Need an accommodation? Request it at least five working days ahead through Kansas Relay Service at TDD 711 or 1-800-766-3777. Full details are on the Workforce Partnership event page.
